Fifty Years Ago Tanya Tucker Recorded ‘Delta Dawn’

March 17, 1972, found a thirteen-year-old Tanya Tucker signing her first record deal with Columbia Records and recording her break-out single, #DeltaDawn. We found two great videos of this infamous song.

Tanya Tucker – I was 13 years old and it was March 17, 1972. I had just signed my first record deal with Columbia Records. It was the first time I had ever stepped into the recording studio that morning for a 10:00 a.m. session!!! I could barely sleep the night before!!! Producer Billy Sherrill was on the board and I met some really great musicians… pedal steel guitarist Pete Drake, harmonica player Charlie McCoy and pianist Pig Robbins. I can’t believe this moment in time was 50 years ago TODAY! WOW!!! The lyrics are something else for a 13 year old girl to sing… “She’s 41 and her daddy still calls her, baby.” Can’t believe they all allowed me sing the song that spoke to my heart and wanted to record! #DeltaDawn has always been a fan favorite and I appreciate you all for hangin’ in, hangin’ out and hangin’ on through the years. Love y’all so much! ❤️🌹🎤🎶🎧
